Extension to Semi-detached house
The existing property is sited on the steeply sloping side of the Ouseburn Valley overlooking Jesmond Vale. From Stratford Road it appears to be a two storey house but there are another two lower levels to the rear where the land falls sharply towards the Ouseburn river. The resident family enjoyed the existing accommodation on the upper two levels, particularly the west facing balcony which was accessed from the open plan kitchen, dining living room. However the lower levels were underused, needed refurbishment and there was also an urgent need for extra bedrooms.
A new two extension was constructed to the boundary line of the back yard containing new bedrooms, bathroom and laundry space on one level and an office with separate entrance at street level, family room and cycle store on the ground floor level. The flat roof of the extension was designed as a roof terrace, replacing the former balcony, but with enough space for the whole family to use at once.
