43 Albert Street, Durham City

Remodelling of Victorian townhouse

Remodelling of this four storey terraced house centred around creation of open plan living, kitchen dining room and garden access.

New structural openings were formed connecting the former lounge and kitchen areas with the garden, making a visual link from the street front through the house to parkland setting beyond.

Large Crittall style glazed doors have been carefully inserted within a new opening cut into original random sandstone blocks and regularised with brickwork quoins.

All existing masonry has been cleaned and repointed. Original sliding sash windows were modified on site to accommodate new thermally efficient double glazed units.

A previously dank basement has been made fully habitable as a home / office workspace.

Original floorboards are simply sanded and decoration generally has been stripped back to highlight traditional features of the house.
