Supported Living accommodation
Following the success of our project at Ouseburn Road (RIBA Awards) as an example of how contemporary living need not be expensive to build, the practice was approached by Haringey Council to develop a brief for social housing on an former railway siding in the London borough.
The proposal, which is currently out for public consultation, broadly aims to arrange 27 new apartments around a series of landscaped open spaces. Supported accommodation for some of the areas vulnerable residents will be provided over two separate buildings, each opening to smaller landscaped spaces providing secure therapeutic outdoor space and children’s play space for use of the supported living residents.
The new buildings will enclose an area of green space for use by the existing local community alongside a new access road and pedestrian pathway. It is proposed that this space is developed for community use shared between the new residents and existing local residents.
Level access to residents secure outdoor space, strong visual connections between indoor and outdoor space as well as a blurring of building and landscape have been central to the design throughout.
It is proposed that there is continuity between the palette of materials for the internal common areas and the building exterior in order to reinforce connections between internal spaces and surrounding landscape / gardens.
