Remodel of Family House
The clients wanted to remodel their 1970s property to provide more accommodation and improve the relationship between the house and the beautiful garden. An existing upvc conservatory and single storey extension were demolished, and the house was extended to the rear with an over-sailing green roof and fully glazed walls giving a huge open plan kitchen, dining, living room space with views of the garden in every direction. The house was extended at first floor level over the existing garage to provide an extra bedroom with en-suite and a vaulted ceiling.
The ground floor was insulated and an underfloor heating system installed in the new polished concrete floor across the whole of the ground floor. Polished concrete was also used for the new patio areas visually linking the internal and external spaces. The existing brick walls were externally insulated and rendered dark grey, and new walls and new garage door were clad with charred timber boarding (Shou Sugi Ban). New dark grey PPC aluminium windows replaced existing white upvc windows.
